Laboratorio Alte Valli

Territories, Companies and Products of the Western Alps

Laboratorio Alte Valli is a project to promote the territories, businesses and products that characterise the Susa, Sangone and Pinerolo Valleys. A showcase of local craftsmanship and food and wine excellence, a guide for those who want to discover and fully experience this portion of the Western Alps while admiring its art and nature. The history of these valleys is also the history of the men and women who have inhabited them, working the land with passion and interacting with the mountains, handing down the knowledge and preserving the traditions that still make them alive today.

Pinerolo Valleys
A borderland, dotted with forts and fortifications, rich in Occitan and Waldensian influences. The south-western part of the province of Turin identified as Pinerolese comprises 45 municipalities distributed between Val Chisone, Val Pellice and Val Germanasca. A vast and heterogeneous territory in which the knowledge of stone working meets the excellent production of cheese and wine. Where tasty dishes and typical desserts are still made following the ancient recipes of Pinerolo's first pastry and chocolate shops.

A large Alpine valley nestled between the two orographic slopes drawn by the Dora Riparia, crossed by the Via Francigena and dominated by the majesty of the Sacra di San Michele. An area rich in businesses, craft traditions and products: from bread baked in the communal oven to heroic vines, from cattle breeding in the alpine pastures to chestnuts and wood processing.

The Maurienne (Moriana, in Italian), is a French valley located in the French department of Savoie. The territory corresponds to the 120-km-long Arc Valley and includes part of the Vanoise National Park, in the continuity of the Italian Grand-Paradis National Park. A border territory with Italy, the Maurienne is predisposed to be a privileged passageway and gateway to Italy and the High Alps. It can be reached from Italy from Susa.
